AMA to reconsider assisted suicide policy
In June, the American Medical Association (AMA) decided to study the possibility of taking a neutral position on doctor-assisted suicide. They had always firmly opposed it in the past.
Dr. Jeff White, of the Louisiana State Medical Society, said after the vote that such a change threatened “the future of the integrity of the medical profession” and, among other things, “could have a lasting negative impact on … the doctor patient relationship of trust, and the true autonomy of underprivileged persons.”
