(Links are below for the Announcement Flyer,  Directions, rules, and prizes, and the permission slip)

WHO can participate?

Our primary audience are students in grades 1-8. We hope that parents and teachers will assist students to plan, execute, and submit entries that showcase their best work – and to help them understand that not everyone can win, but the doing of the work is satisfying in itself. We encourage artists and adults to submit non-competing exhibition works for the enjoyment and edification of all.

There is a limit of ONE submission per person per category.

Entries will be accepted from:

Individual students in grades 1-8.

Groups consisting of students in grades 1-8, any mixture of grades/ages.

Families – at least one student in grade 1-8, siblings, and parents.

Non-competing individuals and teams of any age.

Please note that all persons under the age of 18 must submit a completed Permission Slip. Adults as non-competitors or group members need to provide contact information. Every effort will be made to award winners their prize at an appropriate school function.

WHAT can be entered?

Two-dimensional original artwork that conveys messaging supporting the theme, “Every Person Matters” is eligible. Any media is acceptable, but if you have questions please contact MaryLee at mwilk at rochester dot rr dot com. Media that rubs off must be fixed with an artists coating like Krylon Clear Acrylic Coating. Watercolor or Bristol paper is available by request by contacting MaryLee.

Caution: Work that contains copyrighted material or is threatening, offensive, insulting, or abusive in any way, or that does not illustrate a pro-life message, will be rejected and returned to the artist by the RARTL Committee.

WHERE to take finished entries?

School teachers are encouraged to tell their students which teacher is collecting the entries. RARTL volunteers will pick these up from teachers after March 27, 2026. Homeschoolers or other non-students should contact MaryLee to arrange drop-off at a mutually convenient time.

WHEN does the contest take place?

This year’s deadline for submissions is March 27, 2026. Winners will be notified and awarded before the end of the school year. A public display of all submissions will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral on dates to be determined.

WHY participate?

The purpose of the Rochester Area Right to Life Committee, Inc. is to restore respect and protection for the lives of the unborn, newborn, handicapped, terminally ill, and elderly who are potential victims of abortion, infanticide, or euthanasia. It is important that we engage with the community, youth in particular, to encourage thoughtful, serious discussions and help them learn how to express their ideas and values about these serious. We hope that this activity gives parents and teachers opportunities to have conversations with children in a fun and creative way.

And you could win a prize!
